Gujarat’s BJP MLA from Manjalpur, Yogesh Patel, died on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) at the age of 79 following a cardiac ailment. He was undergoing treatment at Sterling Hospital in Vadodara, where he was admitted two days ago.
A veteran BJP leader, Patel served as a legislator for 36 years and was elected to the Gujarat Assembly eight consecutive times, starting from 1990.
Patel represented the Manjalpur Assembly constituency since 2012 and was re-elected in 2017 and 2022. Before shifting to Manjalpur, he was elected from the Raopura constituency in 2002 and 2007.
The veteran MLA served as Minister of State for Narmada and Urban Housing in the government led by then-Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed grief over Patel’s death in a post on X. “He remained committed to the service of the nation and the people and earned a place in the hearts of ordinary citizens. I pray that God grants peace to his soul and gives strength to his family and supporters to bear this loss,” the Chief Minister said.
Gujarat BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma condoled Patel’s demise and said his contribution to public service and the party would always be remembered.
“The news of the demise of Yogesh Patel, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the MLA from Manjalpur, is extremely heart-breaking. His contribution to public service and the organisation over decades will always be remembered,” he said in a statement.
