In a shocking incident, a partially clothed and partially burnt body of a woman was found near the embankment of the Narmada Canal between Keliya Vasna and Shekhdi villages in Dholka taluka of Ahmedabad district on Tuesday, prompting a murder investigation.
According to police, the body was discovered in a mutilated and burnt condition near the canal embankment, raising suspicion that the woman had been murdered elsewhere before an attempt was made to destroy evidence by setting the body on fire.
During the preliminary investigation, the deceased was identified as Rinaben Baldevbhai Zala, originally a resident of Badrakha village and presently residing at Balaji Square in Kalikund.
Police sources said Rinaben was employed as a teacher at the government primary school in Chaloda village, and was on a census duty.
Following the discovery, local police teams and forensic experts rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed examination of the scene. Investigators are probing multiple angles, including personal and professional motives, to establish the circumstances leading to her death.
The body has been shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to help ascertain the exact cause of death and whether the victim was killed before being set ablaze.
Police have launched an intensive investigation and are examining available evidence, including CCTV footage from nearby routes and the victim’s recent movements. Efforts are also underway to identify and trace those responsible for the crime.
